Shawn

Today, I went to the Singapore Botanic Gardens again for the same project. This is the last day of the outdoor project. The next thing is to do a write up.

Anyway, my mentor, Shawn Kaihekulani Yamauchi Lum, 42, was with us. During the spare time at the Gardens, we had a small chat.

Shawn is a very nice and friendly person. He is from the City of Honolulu, Island of Oaho, and State of Hawaii. He is quite dark as his dad was half Chinese, half Polynesian and his mum was Japanese. He simply loved plants and hence, was doing research about plants around this region.

The next thing he realized was that he had been in Singapore for 14 years when he first arrived as a research student.

We then talked about Polynesian stuff. According to Shawn, different Polynesian tribes have different types of guardian angels, such as whales, dolphins and birds. And the guardian angel of his tribe is The Shark. I was simply amazed. He told me that there was this thing called the Polynesian Triangle too. (I only know about Bermuda Triangle.) Polynesian Triangle includes Hawaii, New Zealand and Tahiti.

It was really interesting talking to him. We would have carried on with the conversation if not for some work interference.
